9th Lit: Meyers-Briggs Personality Testing

What does this all mean?

The Meyers-Briggs Personality test was devised off of the theories of Carl Jung and is backed by his studies of human personalities and psychology. Each letter in the four letter response signifies a specific way you interact with world around you. They are as follows:

E or I?

These letters describe how a person receives energy and explain how we channel it.

  • E: Extraverted – An individual who focuses their attention outward while drawing energy from their environment.
  • I: Introverted – An individual who focuses their attention inward while drawing energy from themself.

S or N?

These letters describe how we learn and understand the world around us.

  • S: Sensing – An individual who prefers to take in information through the 5 senses.
  • N: Intuition – An individual who goes beyond what is real and gets information from relationships, associations, and meaning.

T or F?

These letters describe how we make decisions.

  • T: Thinking – An individual who makes their decisions based on impersonal , objective logic.
  • F: Feeling – An individual who makes decisions based on a person-centerd, values-based process.

J or P?

These letters describe how we experience life and how others experience us.

  • J: Judging – Individuals who want the world to be organized and orderly and look at the world and see decisions that need to be made.
  • P: Perceiving – Individuals who seek to experience the world, not organize it.

Meyers Briggs Personality Testing

Instructions for today: After taking the assessment online, please respond to the following questions in complete sentences:

  1. From the list at the bottom of the page, please select a famous individual who shares your personality type? Please explain why this person stands out from the rest. Were you surprised, proud, or disappointed that you have the same personality as this person?
  1. What strength listed in the overview best describes you when you are at school? Why?
  1. Which weakness listed in the overview best describes you when you are at school? What experiences demonstrate this?
  1. Pick a quote from the section on friendships. In a few sentences, explain why you believe that this quote is true for your friendships at this point in your life.
  1. After reading the section on parenting, answer the following question. Do you believe one of your parents shares your personality type? Which quote most shows you this?
  1. In the career paths section, identify 3 possible career options that are suggested for people of your personality type. List them below.

Reflection: We will cover these together at the end of class.

  1. Based on what you read, do you believe people of with your personality type grow up to be “rich”? What makes you think this?
  1. Imagine that an individual does not like certain parts of their personality. In your opinion, should that person attempt to change their personality? Why or not?
